The Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club is pleased to welcome Mike Janyk for this coming season in the role of Performance Director. Both Mike and the Tyee Alpine Committee see his focus as being on improving the athlete, coaching and club environment through education.

“We are very excited to have Mike on board in this capacity with the Club. Most of you know (but some may not) that Mike is a former member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team and comes with nearly two decades of World Cup and FIS racing experience. He has been one of Canada’s standout technical racers over the years, has been on the podium in the World Championships, and is an Olympian several times over,” said Tyee President, Chris Pretty.

“Along with his former teammate, Manuel Osborne-Paradis, he established the non-profit Mike & Manny Foundation, which runs ski camps for children. Mike grew up on the North Shore of Vancouver and in Whistler, and has direct ties to both communities. To say that he is passionate about ski racing and giving back to kids would be an understatement.”

Mike will be working in a technical capacity with all Tyee Head Coaches and age groups on these long-term objectives:

  • skier performance
  • technical abilities of club athletes
  • athlete psychological strength and readiness (being okay with the unknown)
  • the training environment
  • increasing coach satisfaction

His goals for the club in this position can be expressed as follows:

Core Values: Communication, Individuality, Love

Mission: Grow the Space where Excellence Thrives (Excellence being a joyful quality of being at one’s best)

Vision: The Freedom to Perform

Chris and Gogi Kaludjercic, the club’s Alpine Committee Chair, had a chance to take Mike up on the hill several weeks ago to show him the new Race Centre.

“We also shared with him where the club’s vision lies moving forward. We talked with him and had an open dialogue as to where he thought he could make the most positive impact on the Tyee organization. I can say he was genuinely impressed with both the on-hill training infrastructure we have built with our partner Grouse Mountain Resorts and with the dedication and support of the many Tyee coaches, volunteers, and the membership,” Chris noted.

“With the addition of Mike to our director/coaching roster, we are positioning the club for a great season and beyond! Please join Gogi and I in welcoming Mike to the Tyee Team!”
