The Grouse Mountain Tyee Race Centre is a two-phase legacy project that Grouse Mountain Resorts Ltd. (GMR) and the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club (Grouse Tyee) are developing together to provide unique alpine ski racing and corporate opportunities currently unavailable in the Lower Mainland.
The centre will serve as a venue for GMR to host a variety of corporate events, school programs, general public racing, and free skiing. Grouse Tyee will use the centre to host races and deliver ski-training programs for athletes aged five through 18, from the foundations of the sport up to the F.I.S. level. The centre will also become the home training base for the Vancouver Ski Team, and be used for coach development and certification programs.
During this initial phase, GMR and Grouse Tyee are turning the existing Blazes run on Grouse Mountain into steep technical terrain where they will to hold future alpine ski training programs and races that will draw amateur athletes from across the Coast Zone and beyond, beginning this 2015-2016 season.
Upgrades to the Mountain Highway service road, a complete reshaping of the Blazes run to accommodate a slalom course (160m vertical), lights, and a finish hut have been among the project’s primary Phase 1 components. Phase 2 of the project will see an extension of the Blazes run to accommodate a full GS course (280m vertical).
